Laugh-Out-Loud 'Daddy's Dyin'' at Lake Wales Little Theatre

We had the absolute pleasure of attending a preview night for the new show at the Lake Wales Little Theatre, and we are still laughing! As many of you know, Richard has been the official photographer for LWLT for the past eight years, and preview night is always our favorite time to capture the magic this cast and crew create.

This new show, “Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got The Will?”, is a fantastic production and a perfect night out.

A Hilarious “Comedy of Heirs”

“Daddy’s Dyin'” is a “Comedy of Heirs” by Del Shores. The story revolves around the chaotic—and hilarious—reunion of the Turnover family in rural Texas, who have all gathered to await their father’s impending death… and, more importantly, the reading of his will.

We got to see the incredible cast in action, and they are simply fantastic. The chemistry on stage is electric, and their comedic timing is perfect. A huge round of applause goes to:

Directed by Mike & Chevon Bacchus, this entire crew brings the quirky, lovable, and sometimes-infuriating characters to life in a way that will have you roaring with laughter one minute and surprisingly touched the next. As the theatre’s photographer for almost a decade, Richard has seen countless productions, and he agrees this is one you absolutely don’t want to miss. We’re thrilled to share some of the official photos from the night! The show officially opens tonight, November 7th, and runs for the next two weekends. Tonight is a special opening night event with hor d’oeuvres, beer, wine, and the show for just $40—a perfect way to kick off the run!

A Cornerstone of the Community

A show this good is a perfect reminder of what an incredible asset the Lake Wales Little Theatre is to our community. For those who may not know, the theatre has a rich and vital history. Founded in 1978, it has been the only continuous source of live theatrical performance in Lake Wales for over 45 years. What makes it so special is that it is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. From the actors on stage to the crew managing the lights, everyone is there for the pure love of theatre and a shared mission to provide cultural enrichment and a creative outlet for our town. For its first 14 years, the group performed in various local spaces until, in 1992, they opened their permanent home at the 411 N. 3rd Street location (the former high school band building) through tremendous volunteer labor and community support. It’s more than just a stage; it’s a community hub, a proving ground for young talent, and a place where we all get to share in the magic of storytelling.
